Idea of Happiness- A Millennial's Point of View

"I need more motivation". This was how I succeeded in putting off my blog post every time. Nevertheless, this is how most of us are- lazy, aimless, impatient, ill-mannered, lacking self-discipline and what not or are interpreted or (misinterpreted). Of course exceptions do exist but long story short we are considered as a bunch of youngsters with an insatiable thirst for wealth and all things material.
But the most sought-after question is Are we happier than our forefathers used to be?

What is our idea of Happiness?
Leaving aside the alleged bucket list things all of us have most commonly travelling the world, planning a solo trip and many more (no offense even I do have a ginormous bucket list). These are the things which would take some time, money determination and a lot of convincing to do. Probably these cannot be included in our idea of Happiness since they require some conditions to be fulfilled and happiness is felt irrespective of certain stipulated conditions

There comes a feeling which fills us to the brim and sometimes we do get goosebumps on the amount of satisfaction we feel. On my part, it is something which we get from even the minute of things which we do not even realize have the ability to make us feel that way. I can enlist a number of things the foremost being Nature itself.

The breath of fresh air after rain, and "That petrichor smell" which calms our senses, Sitting at the beach waiting for the waves to come closer and touch our feet and that is when we realize some things are effortlessly peaceful.

Imagine the satisfaction we have when we finish an assignment much before the deadline. Many of you can relate to this since this is something way much rare these days. Moreover, the feeling we get when we get time to binge-watch our favorite shows irrespective of our overloaded schedule. That stuff is certainly an achievement in itself. (It certainly is for me since I get goosebumps everytime I get to watch horror movies or Harry Potter).

And it is incomparable when we have someone to talk to late at night.  Sitting at the dead of the night talking random stuff, discussing our bucket list things, realizing the failures we've had, the changes we have gone through, for good.

Doing certain things which would make others happy. I have had various suggestions about the idea of true happiness but overall I could come up with two outcomes- either make yourself happy or make others happy. I feel these are like two sides of the same coin. Much to anyone's denial, you cannot spread happiness until and unless you yourself are happy. And if you aren't happy yourself then all you do is spread negativity.

The most underrated would certainly be appreciating ourselves. Do we ever realize the dreams and ambitions we have fulfilled on our way to reach where we are now? Sometimes do make note of how far you've come in order to go further. There is a sudden occurrence to me that how lucky I am to have some people around me and there are actually some things I had dreamt of which eventually have materialized. It gives us a transient peace and satisfaction. All the dreams you've had you actually are a part of that now, like how often does that happen.

I believe happiness is something, which you can feel even in the smallest of things. Getting something new, going someplace, taking the first bite of your favorite food and many more. It is a process not a feeling we attach with reaching the destination. So these were some of the ideas which I, as a millennial, could think of.  Do you feel the way I feel or Am I the only one blessed with the ability to feel deeply? Comment down below. Let me know if people out there can relate. Need more of motivation to continue writing 😊

It's not possible to be happy always but atleast we can try and see the good side to everything.

  1. Happiness shouldn't be just a feeling but a way of life. It shouldn't be the hostage of a certain outcome or an event instead be an unconditional dimension in our life.

Great writeup, waiting for next one!
